What is an LCD KVM Switch?

An LCD KVM Switch is a 1U rack drawer that combines an LCD monitor, keyboard, and touchpad with a KVM switch. This allows an administrator to select and control many servers/PCs from one console—both locally and (on select models) remotely over IP.

The slide‑away design stores it neatly when not in use, while optional dual‑rails allow the LCD to remain visible for continuous monitoring with the keyboard tucked away.

Key Use Cases

  • Centralized server administration & maintenance
  • Rack space & cabling optimization
  • 24/7 monitoring in server rooms
  • Remote access via KVM over IP
  • OS installation & updates via virtual media

Key Features

1U Space-Saving Slide-away

LCD + keyboard + touchpad integrated into a single 1U module for 19‑inch racks.

Optional Dual-Rails

The LCD and keyboard can operate independently, allowing the screen to remain visible while the keyboard is stowed.

Daisy-Chain & Scalability

Control 8–16 servers per unit; daisy-chain/stack to reach hundreds of servers.

KVM over IP (Select Models)

Local & remote access via browser; multi‑user, session recording, and centralized management.

Robust Security

User accounts, TLS/SSL, AES, and RADIUS/LDAP/AD on select models.

Virtual Media

Remotely mount ISO/USB for OS deployment and maintenance.

High Video Quality

From 1280×1024 to Full HD/4K depending on model, with stable sync.

Broad Compatibility

PS/2 and USB; Windows, Linux, macOS, UNIX; VGA/DVI/HDMI/DP per variant.

Benefits

  • Space efficiency: one 1U console replaces multiple monitors/keyboards.
  • Cost savings: fewer peripherals per server and less on-site travel.
  • Faster response: instant server switching plus remote troubleshooting.
  • Security: user authentication, encryption, and secure KVM options for isolated domains.
  • Scalability: daisy-chain/stack to manage hundreds of servers.
  • Rack Tidiness: simplified cabling and improved ergonomics.

FAQ

What is the difference vs a regular KVM switch?
An LCD KVM includes the integrated console. A regular KVM requires an external monitor & keyboard. LCD KVMs save rack space and keep things tidy.
What is Dual-Rail?
The LCD and keyboard/touchpad slide on separate rails. The LCD can remain open for monitoring while the keyboard is stowed away.
Can I access servers remotely?
Yes—models with KVM over IP allow access via a web browser, multi-user sessions, and virtual media for maintenance.
How many servers can I control?
Typically 8 or 16 per unit. With daisy-chain/stacking you can scale to hundreds, depending on the series and topology.
Is it secure?
Selected models support TLS/AES encryption, external auth (RADIUS/LDAP/AD), user roles, and even certified secure KVMs for sensitive environments.
